Quests in Graveyard Keeper 2
Every quest type — cemetery jobs, Town restoration, NPC favors, and the story that ties them together.
Graveyard Keeper 2 keeps the quest system from the original while expanding it into Town restoration. The research UI shows a Quests tab alongside Character, Tech Tree, Inspirations, and Map. This page covers quest types, tracking, and the difference between a cemetery job and a Town project.
If you want the story beats, read the story page. If you want quest rewards and specific walkthroughs, this is the right place.
Quest types
The game has four distinct quest categories:
Cemetery quests
Standard burial and graveyard maintenance jobs. These are the bread and butter of the Grand Inquisitor role:
- Bury specific corpse types
- Achieve skull rating targets on graves
- Build or place graveyard modules
- Craft items for church or bishop
These quests anchor the early game loop and teach core systems before opening the map.
Town restoration quests
The June 2026 Town devlog promises: you will see The Town, and you will restore it. Town quests involve:
- Rebuilding specific structures
- Bringing NPCs back to specific areas
- Supplying consumer goods to residents
- Clearing combat zones before rebuilding can begin
Town restoration is the long-horizon goal. Cemetery income funds Town projects; zombie labor accelerates both.
NPC favor quests
Individual NPCs have personal requests:
- Fetch quests for specific resources or items
- Construction favors (build something for an NPC)
- Information quests (find out what happened to someone)
- Combat protection requests
The townsfolk page covers individual NPC details. Favor quests build reputation and unlock shop access.
Combat and defense quests
Street fights and zone clearing operations:
- Defend a position against zombie siege
- Clear a district of hostile undead
- Escort missions through combat zones
- Fortification construction for defense
Combat quests tie directly to zombie army management and combat system mastery.
The Quests tab
The research UI Quests tab is your central quest log. It shows:
- Active quests with objectives
- Quest stages and progression
- Location hints for objectives
- Reward previews (where announced)
Unlike the original game, quest tracking appears to be integrated into the UI rather than requiring external notes.
Main story progression
The September 2026 diary Old World — New Story outlines the narrative frame:
- Eight-year time skip from the original game
- The skull companion is not Gerry (the original’s skull)
- You are the Grand Inquisitor in a new office
- The Town was once a real city before the crisis
- Milestones replace the Teleportstone for fast travel
The story page has full diary details. Quest progression follows this narrative; completing cemetery quests unlocks Town access; Town restoration unlocks story reveals.
Quest rewards
Typical quest rewards in Graveyard Keeper 2:
- Currency — gold for general use
- Reputation — with specific NPC groups or Town factions
- Unlocks — tech tree nodes, building access, area access
- Items — specific equipment, reagents, or crafting materials
- Zombie labor — quests can increase your worker cap
Always check reward descriptions before committing to a long quest chain. Some rewards are better than the time investment.
Quest tips
- Do cemetery quests first — they teach core systems without time pressure
- Track Town restoration early — it is the long-horizon goal
- Combine quest objectives — one harvest trip can complete multiple active quests
- Check the Quests tab before traveling — avoid backtracking
- Combat quests require Simple Barricades — do not attempt without tech tree preparation
Quests and the tech tree
The tech tree is not quest-gated in the traditional sense, but quest completion often reveals:
- New buildable structures (Town Workshop expansions)
- New zombie types for your army
- New reagent sources for alchemy
- New NPC shops and services
Parallel progression: work the tech tree and quest systems simultaneously. Cemetery quests teach; Town quests reward; combat quests test your production lines.
Related systems
Quests connect to every system:
- Getting Started for quest-like first-week activities
- Automation for zombie worker management
- Combat for defense quest preparation
- Town rebuild for the long restoration arc
- Story for narrative context
The townsfolk page covers individual NPC quest givers. The players hub covers character details.
