How Graveyard Keeper 2 Was Announced

From the Triple-I stage in April to a locked September 22 launch window.

Announcement Timeline

Graveyard Keeper 2 did not leak out of a job listing. It walked onto the Triple-I Initiative Showcase on 9 April 2026 with a trailer, a wishlist button, and a limited free copy of the 2018 original. This page is the announcement history so you can see what was promised in April versus what was added in May–August. For the locked calendar day, use release date. For design detail, use devlogs.

9 April 2026 — Triple-I

tinyBuild and Lazy Bear’s press release (“Bring out your dead!”) said the quiet parts in marketing language:

  • Sequel to a series that had sold over four million units
  • Coming later in 2026 to Steam, Epic, GOG, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and Switch 2
  • Pillars: corpse burying you know and love; manage / grind / automate; save the kingdom as Inquisitor; rebuild the Town for profits
  • Original Graveyard Keeper free to claim on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox until 13 April 2026, keepable after that

The tinyBuild YouTube upload (KZ6VRXqGEws, embedded on this wiki’s home page) is the canonical announcement trailer. Platform channels mirrored it. GameSpot carried a “world premiere gameplay” cut. That is why this wiki’s what’s new page uses the GameSpot ID and the homepage uses tinyBuild’s — they are the same reveal week, not duplicate filler.

The free original as a marketing engine

The April giveaway is historically important even though it is over. Steam charts commentary around that weekend described a huge concurrent spike for the first game (outlets cited tens of thousands). TinyBuild later said wishlists for the sequel jumped hard — one April tweet joked about ~300k in two days; Japanese coverage later cited 400k by 13 April. You do not need those numbers to play. You do need them to understand why September’s pre-order post felt loud.

If you claimed the original, you already own the homework for Getting Started. If you did not, the sequel still does not require it.

Summer 2026 — diaries instead of a date

April’s trailer showed combat, factories, and a Town. It did not show a day. Lazy Bear filled the gap with Steam news:

  • May: zombies 2.0
  • June: Town restoration and cemetery modules
  • July: 3D art and lighting

Those posts are indexed on devlogs. They are the reason this wiki can talk about Possession-Free marks and graveyard modules without guessing.

26 August 2026 — the date becomes real

“Graveyard Keeper 2 is Launching on 22 September!” added pre-order language (Sauna, outfit) and pointed at graveyardkeeper2.com. Future Games Show / gamescom-week trailers in the same window (including the FGS gameplay spot used on automation) were the public face of that lock-in.

1–2 September 2026 — pre-order brag and story teaser

Alex Nichiporchik’s public note about $1 million in five days of pre-orders is a publisher temperature check, not a player guide. The Steam news “Old World — New Story” is a reminder that lore is still being served while playtest continues. Neither post changed the date.

What the announcement did not say

  • No online sessions. Steam categories: single-player.
  • No Steam Deck badge.
  • No macOS/Linux.
  • No “you must own the original.”
  • No review scores (there are still none — preview).

When someone on social media says the sequel was “shadow dropped,” they are mixing it up with the original’s April giveaway. The sequel had a five-month public runway and a dated Steam app. Use this timeline if you need to argue with a friend who only saw a September trailer.

Continue to pre-order if you are buying, or to the guides hub if you are planning the first week. Official doors stay on links.
