Graveyard Keeper 2 Rebuild The Town

Open the gate the original game teased, then turn civic problems into a balance sheet.

Rebuild the Town

The Town is the sequel’s spoiler that is no longer a spoiler. For eight years, Graveyard Keeper players argued whether a real city sat behind the guards. Lazy Bear’s June 2026 devlog answered: you will see it, and you will restore it. Steam’s own bullets are less poetic — rebuild The Town and milk its residents for maximum profits.

This page is the civic half of Graveyard Keeper 2. Pair it with zombie army combat because the same streets get sieged, and with automation because zombies do the heavy lifting while you collect the quest stamp.

A short history, according to the devlog

Lazy Bear’s Town diary, lightly paraphrased:

  • Founded in the era of the Old Mighty God
  • Many centuries later, it is not in its glory days
  • During Graveyard Keeper 1 it was still a functioning medieval city over the horizon
  • Graveyard Keeper 2 pushes it into Zombie Capitalism — restoration, mass production, mass consumption, the way post-plague Europe found a renaissance

You are not founding a colony on empty grass. You are an Inquisitor reopening a ruin that already has a reputation, a church memory, and a problem with curses.

Named Town locations already in screenshots

Port Area. Night, rain, a wooden hull under a tarp, barrels, a guitar on the dirt, glowing bottles by a crooked tower, location chips that say Town and Port Area, a 12/20 thumbs-up. This is a construction site, not a postcard. If boat-building becomes a quest chain, this is the set.

Astrologer’s Tower. A split interior: bedroom with a star quilt on the left, a stone ritual room on the right. Six colored floor circles around a table with a crystal ball and candles. Papers on the floor, a statue in the alcove. This is an NPC space with a puzzle-like floor, not a storage shed.

Town Workshop. Covered on the automation page — indoor zombie factory, 66/75 meter. Civic restoration and industry share a campus.

Street combat lane. Timber houses, a well, a catapult, barricades. Covered on the zombie army page. Restoration that you cannot defend is just a firewood pile.

When you play, screenshot every new top-right location chip. Those strings are how this wiki will build a directory after September 22 without inventing street names.

What “restore” probably means

Official verbs:

  • Help townsfolk restore their homes
  • Complete quests throughout the city
  • Let undead workers handle heavy lifting behind the scenes
  • Turn problems into revenue
  • Use zombie-based automation and structured systems to scale the operation

That is three layers:

  1. Quest layer — talk, fetch, maybe ritual work in the Astrologer’s Tower.
  2. Construction layer — hulls, homes, facades. Lazy Bear said they built a whole kit so Town pieces can be swapped.
  3. Ledger layer — you get paid. The satire only works if comfort you sell today becomes sin you harvest tomorrow (see the red-skull note on graveyard).

Do not expect a wholesome Stardew town festival to be the point. The press line is unhinged humor, grotesque characters, twisted story.

Labor you should not do yourself

The whole Town pitch collapses if the Inquisitor personally carries every beam. Screenshots already show zombies at Workshop benches and the Keeper walking Port Area with a lantern. Your comparative advantage is sorting work: which zombie goes to the hull, which goes to the spear line, which goes to a grave that visiting townsfolk will see.

If a quest asks for bricks, you want Brick Making from the Building tech tree, not a shopping trip. If a quest asks for weapons, you want the factory, not a boss drop. Town is the customer of automation.

A first-week Town plan

  1. Unlock the gate or path the game actually gives you — do not clip through a wall because a 2018 meme said the pass was fake.
  2. Walk Port Area and the nearest timber street without starting a fight you cannot barricade.
  3. Note every NPC title (Astrologer is already a place name; the person may match).
  4. Accept one home-restoration quest and one production quest, then refuse the rest until the Workshop crate is filling.
  5. After the first siege, repair pathing before you take more civic work. A blocked alley is a failed town.

How Town ties to pre-order toys

The Sauna listed on the pre-order page is a building. Place it as a morale joke after you have a functioning yard, not as your first Town structure. The platform-specific Inquisitor outfit is a costume for the man collecting the rents.

Story framing will keep moving — the September 2, 2026 Steam note is titled “Old World — New Story.” Use the devlogs index rather than this page for lore dumps. This URL stays a restoration and logistics guide.

The original game made The Town a dare. The sequel makes it a department. If you treat it as a theme park you visit after “beating” the graveyard, you will miss the joke: the cemetery, the factory, and the city hall are the same firm.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers Keepers ask before September 22.

Could you enter The Town in the first game?

Not as the city sim the sequel describes. The June 2026 devlog treats full restoration as new. See what's new.

What Town areas are confirmed?

Screenshots name Port Area, Town Workshop, and Astrologer's Tower, plus a combat street. More chips will appear at launch.

Do I restore buildings by hand?

Official copy says undead workers take the heavy lifting while you complete quests and run structured production.

Is Town restoration optional?

Marketing treats it as a pillar beside the graveyard and the army. You can delay it; you probably cannot ignore it forever.
