The Donkey in Graveyard Keeper 2
On the poster, next to the zombies — not a confirmed quest giver, and definitely not the talking skull.
Searchers type “is the donkey in Graveyard Keeper 2” because the original game’s talking work animal was half logistics, half union satire. This page answers with what official sequel media actually shows, then draws a hard line between header-art cameo and confirmed corpse-cart quest. The game is still upcoming on September 22, 2026. We will not invent a sequel carrot strike.
For the player role see Grand Inquisitor. For the other talking mascot see skull companion. For civic humans see townsfolk.
What the sequel has actually shown
Steam’s capsule / header for app 4358690 is a cast snapshot: bearded Keeper in a white tunic and purple trousers, shovel up, skull in the off hand, a donkey, two green zombies (sword and club), graves, and the red II. That donkey is why this URL exists. It is brand continuity in the poster, standing with the militia, not hiding in a loading tip.
What the poster does not do:
- Name the animal
- Show a cart, a bell, or a crate of carrots
- Put a location chip called Stable or Donkey Path
- Speak a trailer line (the voiced familiar in trailers is the skull)
Until a diary or a HUD label adds those, the donkey is present in key art and unconfirmed as a quest NPC.
Do not merge the mascots
The 2 September 2026 letter Old World — New Story is the other reason this page must exist. Lazy Bear wrote that the talking skull companion is not Gerry. It is another charming skull. The original community often used “Gerry” for the skull in the first game; the donkey was a separate, very talkative coworker with a cart. Keep three files in your head:
- Original Gerry (skull, 2018)
- Sequel skull (not Gerry) — skull
- Sequel donkey (header art, role TBD) — this page
Calling the sequel skull “the donkey” in a Steam discussion is how you get a useless thread. The story page quotes the diary in full context.
What the original donkey actually did (memory, not a sequel guide)
Use this only as tone homework, the same way Getting Started treats the first game:
- He delivered corpses to the morgue on a schedule, with a bell you could hear across the map
- After the church reopened he could strike, demanding carrots and seed oil, then escalate into proletarian comedy
- He was logistics: no donkey, no reliable body income, no cemetery firm
None of those verbs are in a Graveyard Keeper 2 screenshot we trust. The sequel’s body income may come from a larger Town, from sieges, from refugees in the southern outskirts (story), or from a cart we have not seen. Do not pre-plant a 2018 carrot monoculture “for the donkey” and call it a guide. Farming is still worth doing for stamina, Town goods, and the Garden location chip — not because this page promised a strike.
How he might fit the new loops (labeled as guesses)
Plausible, because the poster put him with armed zombies:
- Corpse logistics between the outskirts graveyard and the Keeper’s base (the June diary places the Graveyard outside the walls)
- A pack animal for the long walks Lazy Bear wants now that the Teleportstone is gone and Milestones are the fast-travel
- Comic relief next to the skull, if they can tell the voices apart
Implausible, and we will not print as fact: mountable cavalry, a romanceable donkey, a paid DLC skin that is the whole animal.
If a launch tooltip names him, this page becomes a quest row: location chip, demands, whether he still poops in the road. Until then the honest sentence is: the donkey is on the box.
Week-one advice that does not require him
- Play the Garden and Graveyard loops first (graveyard, farming).
- Screenshot any animal that pathings with a cart. That screenshot is the confirmation this page is waiting for.
- Do not spend Simple Weapons research on “donkey armor.” Combat is for cursed townsfolk, not for your mascot.
- If he does demand food, check the hotbar (keys 1–4) before you build a second Town Workshop line.

After 22 September 2026, if the donkey is missing from the live build, we will say so in the first paragraph instead of pretending the poster was a mechanic. If he is back with a crate, we will add the crate. Either way, he is not Gerry, and he is not a codes NPC — this is a paid Lazy Bear sequel.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers Keepers ask before September 22.
Is the donkey in Graveyard Keeper 2?
The Steam header art includes a donkey with the Keeper and zombies. A gameplay role (cart, carrots, quests) has not been documented in diaries yet.
Is the talking skull the donkey?
No. The September 2026 diary says the skull is not Gerry. Keep the skull, the original Gerry, and this donkey separate. See skull companion.
Should I grow carrots for him before launch?
Not as a confirmed sequel quest. Grow food because the Garden exists — farming — not because a 2018 strike is guaranteed to return.
Does the donkey fight?
Nothing official shows a combat mount. Street fights use the Inquisitor and Possession-Free troops. See combat.
