Graveyard Keeper 2 Devlogs
Lazy Bear's Steam diaries, compressed so you do not have to reread every news post.
Lazy Bear Games used Steam news as a design blog while Graveyard Keeper 2 was still upcoming. This page is an index of those diaries with the playable implications already translated onto the guides hub. We paraphrase; we do not replace the originals. When in doubt, open the Steam news hub for app 4358690.
20 May 2026 — Where Zombies Feel at Home
Topic: labor and war zombies.
Takeaways we actually use on the wiki:
- Original-game zombies started as DLC helpers (stone, farming, alchemy) because the Keeper had too many jobs
- Sequel zombies also run semi-automatic machines in underground factories
- They do not ask for food, pay, or days off (the joke is the balance lever)
- Specialization and skill progression, maybe a name after ten years
- Red-skull corruption improves skills; you may want sinners
- Comfortable townsfolk become a sin pipeline; leftover corruption can be embalmed in
- Bad zombies are cursed townsfolk; your zombies are Possession-Free
Playable pages: automation, zombie army, graveyard.
16 June 2026 — The Town That Probably Exists
Topic: the city the original treated as a myth.
Takeaways:
- You will see The Town and you will restore it
- Founded in the Old Mighty God era, now entering “Zombie Capitalism”
- During the first game it was still a city over the horizon
- Cemetery layer gains modules: tombs, benches, columbaries, monuments, graves, placed via tech tree
Playable pages: rebuild the Town, graveyard, what’s new.
30 July 2026 — Dissecting the Art and Visuals
Topic: why the sequel is 3D.
Takeaways:
- Original: stylized pixel world with extra lighting tricks
- Sequel: honest 3D, fixed camera kept, sun actually orbits so shadows work as a clock
- Night is dynamic shadows, not a rest period with a darker palette only
- Town needed a capital T, so they built a swappable construction kit and “got a little carried away”
Playable pages: what’s new, preview (for people who bounced off the trailer look).
26 August 2026 — Launching on 22 September
Not a systems diary. It is the date-and-bonus post. Summarized on release date and pre-order.
2 September 2026 — Old World — New Story
Full reading: Old World — New Story. Takeaways we actually use:
- The original showed a small slice; the sequel opens The Town’s southern outskirts, another village, tavern, forest, swamp, church, and graveyard
- Traders from foreign lands; refugees hunting cheap rent in a zombie city
- Eight years passed in the real world and in-fiction
- Same Keeper, not exactly the same Keeper (Stranger Sins hint); newcomers should still understand the plot
- Technology Tree stays; new talent system; less grind
- No Teleportstone; Milestones fast-travel between unlocked locations
- Weekly visitors now live at regular spots; some mechanics stay day-gated
- Talking skull companion is not Gerry
- Lazy Bear now has a QA team and was playtesting while tinyBuild’s CEO cited $1M+ pre-orders in five days
How we treat diaries versus trailers
Trailers lie for comedy (the “charming town” beat in the September spot). Diaries lie less, but they still sell. If a diary says “underground factories” and a screenshot shows a Town Workshop at 66/75, we treat both as true and wait for the connecting corridor. If a YouTuber “datamines” a node that is not on the visible tech tree (Concept of Wood, Simple Barricades, and friends), we ignore it until it is on a screen.
Reading order for busy Keepers
- May (zombies) if you care about labor
- June (Town) if you care about the gate
- July (art) if the trailer look worried you
- August (date) if you need to take time off work
Then go play-plan on Getting Started. Official URLs: links.
After September 22, patch notes will join this index as dated children. Until then, these five posts are the patch notes.
If you only remember one sentence per diary: May says corruption can be a feature; June says the gate is a map; July says the sun is real; August says the day is the 22nd; September says the story is still being written while they playtest. That is enough to stop arguing with a trailer comment and go read Getting Started.
